There are two international airports in Istanbul: Istanbul Atatürk Airport
(www.ataturkairport.com) on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen Airport
(www.sgairport.com) on the Asian side of Istanbul. The distance from the airports on European and Asian sides to the conference venue takes approx. 27 km and 44 km, respectively. The conference venue is on the European side. Most Lux Europa conference hotels are located around Taksim Square. Participants are advised to use the Airport-Taksim route.

Airport-Taksim Transportation Alternatives:

Havaş airport shuttle bus services are available every half hour between 04:00 a.m. and 01:00 a.m. from Atatürk Airport to Taksim Square and vice versa. After 01.00 a.m. extra shuttles are operated depending on the passenger intensity. It takes approx. 40 minutes from the airport to Taksim and the ticket fee is 10 TRY per person (approx. 5 EUR). Ticket fees are increased 25% between 24.00 and 06.00 a.m.

Participants arriving at either airport are advised to use the Havaş airport shuttle bus services.

Public bus services (line 96T) can also be used from Atatürk Airport to Taksim. It takes about 50-60 minutes and the price is 3 TRY. Light rail transportation system (Metro) takes to Aksaray for a fee of 1.3 TRY. Schedules of metro between the stations of Aksaray and Atatürk Airport are as follows:

It is recommended to take a taxi to get from Aksaray to Taksim (6 km).

Another alternative to get from Aksaray to Taksim is to use the public transportation. There is 400 m walk distance from Aksaray Station to Yusuf Paşa Station, where the tram to Kabataş Station is available. From Kabataş Station, the funicular can be taken to get to Taksim.

Taxis cost about 30 TRY from Atatürk Airport to Taksim Square (23 km). There is a surcharge of 50% between 24:00 and 06:00 a.m.

Car rentals are available at the airport.

Special transfer for Lux Europa 2009 participants will be arranged as an optional service by the Topkon travel bureau. Participants will be met by Topkon staff with the conference signboard at the airport gate and will be assisted to the hotel. The transfer rate will be 30 EUR and taxes. Participants wishing to use this service should contact Topkon travel bureau to provide arrival and/or departure flight details.
